The Orkney Native Wildlife Project will once again be taking part in Orkney Nature Festival! On 18 May, we will be running two events; an open day at Mull Head and a guided walk around the beautiful island of Wyre.
Come and join the team at Mull Head to explore every part of the Orkney Native Wildlife Project!
We are the largest invasive stoat eradication project in the world. Our mission is to protect Orkney's native wildlife, some of which is found nowhere else on the planet.
You will have the opportunity to meet our conservation dogs, go in search of the endemic Orkney vole with Sophie Smith, our Monitoring Officer, and meet other members of the project ready to talk about what it is we do.
This family friendly open day is your opportunity to experience hands on conservation and wildlife management alongside our enthusiastic experts.
It's free and open to everyone, so come along between 10:00 to 15:00 and get stuck in!
Visit one of Orkney’s smaller islands with our knowledgeable tour guide, Douggie Beaumont, our Assistant Biosecurity Officer. Douggie will meet you on the Wyre ferry at Tingwall Pier and will take you on a guided walk around Wyre, showing you all the natural hidden gems that the island has to offer.
And, while we can't guarantee otters, Wyre is a great spot for a spot of otter spotting...
The tour will take you round the island's coast, along a path which is not well travelled so sensible footwear and a reasonable level of fitness will be required to make the most of the experience!
Book your free tickets here.
Once you have received a booking confirmation, get yourself booked onto the 08:20 Tingwall to Wyre ferry as a foot passenger, and the return sailing at 13:55 from Wyre to Tingwall. See you there!
